The Monroes

The Monroes was founded in november 2003 in Groningen, Netherlands. Theydeveloped their characteristic sound by covering songs from their own heroeslike garagerockers The Sonics, the sixtiesbeatband Shocking Blue but alsosoulqueen Irma thomas. Within a few months the covers were replaced by theirown songs. The music which arose is an exciting mix of garagerock and soul fromthe fifties & sixties, but also the sound of modern Detroit guitarbands canbe heard in their music.
Within a year they played at festivals such as Eurosonic and Metropolisand at VPRO's Club3voor12. BBC's Radio One regularly played their demo-cd’s andsingles. Nowadays they regularly play at clubs as The Dirty Water Club inLondon and La Fleche d'Or in Paris.
The long-awaited debut-album will be released in 2009. Until that timeThe Monroes will continue to play their trashy soulful rock&roll all overEurope...

The Monroes

The Monroes is opgericht in november 2003 in Groningen. Hun karakteristieke sound hebben ze ontwikkeld door de eerste maanden nummers te coveren van hun eigen helden zoals garagerockers The Sonics, de sixtiesbeat-band Shocking Blue, maar ook soulqueen Irma Thomas. De covers werden binnen enkele maanden vervangen door eigen nummers. De muziek die hieruit is ontstaan is een spannende mix van garagerock en soul uit de jaren '50 & '60, maar ook het geluid van de moderne Detroitse gitaarbands is terug te horen in hun muziek.
Ze speelden binnen een jaar op festivals als Eurosonic en Metropolis en bij VPRO's Club3voor12. BBC's Radio One draaide  regelmatig hun demo en singles. Tegenwoordig zijn ze een terugkerende sensatie in clubs als The Dirty Water Club in London en La Flèche d'Or in Parijs.
De langverwachte debuutcd zal in 2009 worden gepresenteerd. Tot die tijd zullen The Monroes hun trashy soulful rock&roll blijven spelen van Klazienaveen tot Parijs...
